A recent study claims that women working makes the their families suffer, not "both parents working full time", but "the woman". Is this true in your experience? Do you think that it's the women that give birth for a reason and working is neglecting their natural role? Or does women going to work provide the family with greater financial independence and the child with a greater sense of independence as well? And where does all this leave single parents? Is it a choice at all anymore? It has long been taboo to ask whether the unhappiness of British children compared with their Continental counterparts, and the relatively high incidence of anti-social behaviour here, might somehow be related to the long hours worked by British parents, but how important are the working habits of the family to its quality of life?
